You've Got Questions. We've Got Answers.
Most patients have similar questions before their first visit. Here are the ones we hear most often — and if yours isn't here, reach out and we'll answer it.
What is pelvic floor physical therapy?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is specialized care for the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that support your bladder, bowels, and reproductive organs. It addresses conditions like incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, postpartum recovery, and more — for both women and men.
Do you accept insurance?
We accept Medicare and are out-of-network for all other insurance carriers. We submit out-of-network claims to your insurance on your behalf so you can get reimbursed directly. We also accept HSA and FSA. At the time of your appointment, you pay a coinsurance (if you have OON benefits) or full fee.
Why don't you accept most insurance?
Insurance contracts typically limit session time to 20-30 minutes and require high patient volume to make the economics work. We spend the full hour with each patient — something we couldn't do in-network. Going out-of-network lets us give you the quality of care we believe you deserve.
What should I expect at my first visit?
Your first visit is a full 60 minutes with a certified pelvic floor specialist. We'll review your history, assess your pelvic floor (internally only with your consent), evaluate related areas like your hips, core, and back, and build an initial treatment plan together. You're in control the entire time.
How soon can I be seen?
Most new patients are scheduled within a week. Book online via Jane App or call 914-768-3802 and we'll find a time that works for you. Office phones and email are staffed 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Appointment times run beyond that — most days we maintain 7am-7pm availability depending on the therapist (Fridays until 5) — so if standard hours don't work for you, ask.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on what we're treating and how your body responds. Acute conditions or specific symptoms often resolve in 10 or so visits; chronic or complex concerns may take longer. We'll give you honest guidance at your initial evaluation and reassess as you progress.
Do you treat men?
Yes — we're one of the few specialty clinics in Westchester offering pelvic floor care for men. We treat chronic prostatitis, post-prostate surgery recovery, pelvic pain, urinary dysfunction, and orthopedic conditions.
Do you treat children?
Yes — our clinic has experience with pediatric bowel and bladder concerns, including constipation, withholding, and daytime or nighttime accidents. Availability for pediatric visits is more limited than for adults, so call us at 914-768-3802 and we'll talk through whether we're the right fit for your child.
Do I need a referral?
No — New York is a direct access state, meaning you can see a physical therapist initially without a prescription. After one month or 10 visits, whichever comes first, you will need a prescription from a referring provider (MD, NP, or PA). For Medicare patients, you will need a referral or a signed plan of care after the evaluation.
What should I wear to my appointments?
Please wear (or bring to change into) clothing that you would exercise in.
Why doesn't anyone seem to know about my condition?
If you have had your symptoms for a long time and have seen many different providers without answers, you are not alone. Pelvic floor dysfunction gets very little attention in most medical training, so many providers simply aren't looking for it. Your symptoms are far more common than you've been led to believe — and they are treatable.
